Founded in 1893, the College of Business (COB) offers ten undergraduate majors and an MBA program. It is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and enrolls approximately 1,800 undergraduates and 90 resident/150 non-resident graduate students annually. The COB is organized into five units: 1) Finance; 2) Management Information Systems; 3) Marketing; 4) Management Systems; and 5) the School of Accountancy. It offers both an Executive MBA and an MBA Without Boundaries program. The faculty is comprised of more than 60 professionals, 80% of whom hold either Ph.D., D.B.A., or J.D. degree.

Alumni are concentrated primarily on the East Coast in New York, Washington, DC, and Boston—and in the Midwest in the greater Chicago area. Position SummaryThe Senior Director of Development serves as a vital member of the College of Business leadership. Working with the Development Office, the Senior Director of Development will identify potential major gift donors; initiate first contact for the dean, faculty and other administrators and be the primary solicitor for the College; coordinate the annual fund campaign and gift stewardship activities; organize alumni visits; coordinate alumni/development events; and maintain office records and budget. The Senior Director of Development must be familiar with IRS regulations and understand the various vehicles by which a donor can make a private gift. S/he must also be able to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
  
Specific Responsibilities• Serve as the chief development professional for the College of Business, identifying, cultivating, and soliciting private support.

• Serve as liaison between the faculty, staff and students, and potential supporters (individuals, corporations and foundations).

• Work with dean, faculty and staff to identify priorities and strategies for private support.

• Work with the annual giving staff to plan and implement an annual giving program that includes direct mail and phonathon.

• Develop and lead the College of Business in the upcoming comprehensive campaign.

• Engage department chairs and faculty in the fundraising process.

• Plan, implement, and coordinate cultivation activities for prospects and donors.

• Interface with the external relations agents (i.e. Alumni Relations, Development and individual unit/project personnel) to coordinate events and activities involving alumni in the pursuit of identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gift prospects.

  
QualificationsQualities and experiences that ideal candidates should display include:

• A history of success in a sophisticated fundraising setting.

• Comfortable in a team-oriented, goal-driven environment.

• Demonstrate an ability to make a strong commitment to the mission of Ohio University.

• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

• A minimum of five (5) years of professional fundraising experience.

• Excellent written and oral communications skills. The fundraiser must be able to clearly and succinctly communicate a wide variety of information to a diverse set of audiences.

• Ability to function independently, yet work in a centralized development structure.

• Willingness, and an ability, to travel.

• Excellent listening, interpersonal and organizational skills.

  
PreferredPreference will be given to candidates that also display one or more of the following:

• An advanced academic degree.

• Experience working as a major gift officer in a higher education institution.
