| Organization Profile | Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) is an understandably proud health care organization with a strong mission and system-wide passion for excellence. The organization has a very broad, full-service health care operation that includes three hospitals and eight community health centers in strategic locations. There are 40 primary and specialty clinics to care for people who are uninsured or underinsured. Two hospitals and the Network officers (including the development staff) are located in Allentown, Pennsylvania. One hospital is located nearby in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. LVHN is an hour's drive north of Philadelphia and about a 90 minute drive west of New York City. LVHN incorporates core beliefs in three elements: patient care, research and education. In support of these primary elements, the philanthropy staff of approximately 20 professional and support personnel assist donors with their giving decisions for priority needs of the Network. | Position Summary | The Director of Major Gifts is responsible for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of Major Gift Prospects/Donors. The Director of Major Gifts reports to the Vice President of Major and Capital Gifts and works with the Vice President for Development. In the coordinated approach to meeting the department funding priorities, the Director of Major Gifts will also works closely with top-level volunteers, key leaders in the community, and Lehigh Valley Health Network executives, physicians, and other medical staff. | | | |
| Specific Responsibilities | • Responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of 150 major gift prospects (gifts of $10,000 or greater) within the parameters of a rigorous Moves Management program. • Be held accountable for raising four to six times this position’s salary over a rolling three year average—an LVHN target standard within this job category. • Work with the entire Development team to meet personal and team goals. • Develop a financial goal and strategy for each prospect within the position’s pipeline of prospects and donors using the Moves Management program. • Create case material and written proposals. • Work with the Director of Stewardship to arrange for receptions/dinners for identified major gift prospects. • Establish community relationships that help to identify new major gift prospects. • Participate in the major gift/capital campaign strategy sessions that enhance the team approach to a donor-centered fundraising program. • Other duties as assigned. | | | |
| Qualifications | Qualities and experiences that ideal candidates should display include: • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year college or university. • At least five years of increased fundraising experience ranging from the growth of high level annual gifts ($1,000 or more) to managing a pool of major gifts donors ($10,000 and up). • Experience working as a professional fundraiser in a health care philanthropy setting (medical school, hospital, disease research, health care system, or equivalent). • Excellent written and verbal skills combined with poise and maturity to interact well with senior management, community leaders, families and individuals who may bring philanthropic support to LVHN. • Self-motivated, detail oriented, computer literate, team oriented, and willing to learn new tasks when necessary, and as needed. | | | |
| Preferred | Preference will be given to candidates that also display one or more of the following: • Strong working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, donor records system. • Professional fundraising certification: CFRE, FAHP, or equivalent.
